Increasing access to high quality early education is one of the primary evidence-based strategies for mitigating the impact of lead exposure in children. Flint Kids Learn, a supporting organization of the Community Foundation, was established to support increased access to high quality, year round early childhood education in Flint.

FLINT REGISTRY

People who were impacted by the Flint Water Crisis will soon be able to participate in a voluntary secure registry which will aim to connect them to programs and other resources that serve to minimize the effects of lead on their health while promoting wellness and recovery. Enrollment into the registry will begin in fall of 2018, however pre-enroll now to get the most up-to-date information!

GREAT START COLLABORATIVE

Resources to help parents provide a great start for their children, prenatal to third grade. Includes opportunities to participate on a parent coalition and in family activities and support services.

The Imagination Library offers a great opportunity for Flint parents to get free books for their children! Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library offers a program that sends a book each month to the home of each registered child (birth through five years of age) at no cost to the family.

UNITED WAY FLINT URBAN SAFETY & HEALTH CORPS

Through the United Way of Genesee County and partner organizations, the Flint Recovery Corps/ Flint Urban Safety and Health Corps AmeriCorps programs utilizes service members to provide programming related to crime prevention, food security and nutrition, behavioral and developmental health, early education, and medical management as strategies toward long-term recovery from the water crisis.

Since 1981, the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan has grown to serve more than 331,000 people annually through a network of over 700 Hunger Relief Partners, including partner agencies, schools, and other community organizations.
